Old Refrigerator Nook Redo

I love anything that is a nook- it makes me think of a little space with lots of cozy potential.  The nook space that I am currently refering to is our old refrigerator space that has become a collect all space.   What a sad little space it was..  The concept is to turn this old forgotten and unused space into a cute closet for all the kids' sports and recreational equipment.  I am very excited to see what this space is going to become.  It will have beadboard (who doesn't love that?) and hooks for hanging fishing vests and sports uniforms.    I am looking for those old wire pool/gym baskets to put on the shelf that will be at the top.  I love the mix of country and industrial right now.  As with a lot of us- I think why didn't I do this five years ago?  Hope to be able to post the finished product this week!  Fingers crossed.

Take care,

Gwen

The Luck of the Irish

I made these sweet gift bags for all the kiddos in my life a couple years ago and they are so much fun to put together.  This year I had them monogrammed for extra "specialness".  A couple weeks or so before St Patrick's day I search out all things green.  This year they got green chocolate coins, green moustaches, pins and green army men.  The best part is the kick the kids get out of getting their treat bags.  I wonder how many more years I have of them thinking green candy is cool?

Before there was... Wallpaper

So I am posting a few before pics of the playroom.  We are ripping the ceiling out today and I wanted to show you the "befores".

There is a nice variety of period wallpapers, no?

Steve stopped at Elery W Nau (our Local True Value store
in Montoursville, PA)  and picked up some Creosote cleaner so we can tackle a couple stains we have on the bricks behind our stove, so I am hoping to get that worked on today as well.

Projects, projects..   I am so excited to get our new room finished as cold weather is steadily approaching.  I am always very anticipatory this time on year for the onset of cold weather.  It brings on all those cozy nesting feelings that I just love.  The early to bed evenings, the Pumpkin Spice Yankee candles burning, putting the electric blanket  back on the bed for the first time, the smell of a wood burning stove and of course the annual turning of the leaves.  I love it all!

Hope you are enjoying the first official days of Autumn.

A Maiden Voyage

What a leap of faith!  Putting it all out there- I am.  I have thought about blogging for quite a while now and tonights the night.  I am a mom - a crazy mom- trying to fit it all in and make it all come together at the end of the day somehow ( I know I am not alone in this endevour out there).  So many moms (& dads) are also in the same trenches I speak about.  How many things can you truly fit into one day I ask?

With that being said-  I am in love and find my true happiness when making life charming for my family.  This blog will be that journal.

On top of 2 full-time jobs, football practice and soccer practice right now, we are gutting and remodeling our 1970's playroom with the very gratious help of True Value and their DIY True Stories Contest!  Our home which was built in 1880 and this particular room has not been touched since the 1970's and is in dire need of some TLC.  This is the last room in the "old" section of our house to be done and updated.  I can't wait to post pictures of all the "befores" and soon the "afters".

Thanks for stopping by,

Gwen
